The reserve team secured a minimal win over Gimnástica Segoviana thanks to a goal from Kuki Zalazar in minute 15 of the first half, making the most of an assist from Wójcik after a rapid counter-attack. Ruano’s boys came up against a showy rival, who made it impossible for Malagueño to undertake their usual impressive display of football in diverse phases of the game. That said, they created various occasions to increase their lead, particularly David Ramos on the border of the 90th minute. The result stayed the same, no goals were conceded by Malagueño which could be key in the return leg of the promotion play-offs in Segovia.
Juvenil DH
The team suffered a defeat and elimination from the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey (first leg, 1-1). Although Málaga went ahead with an early goal from Alberto, at half-time, Villarreal had a 1-2 lead thanks to Javi Calleja. In the second half, the 1-3 arrived and Joel was shown the red card. Although Hicham – penalty - got a goal, Dely Valdés’s boys couldn’t come from behind, and, as such, close an excellent 2016/17 season.
