A proven goal-scorer joins the attack

Yevhen Seleznov will reinforce the Blue and Whites’ squad until the end of the season. The Ukrainian international averages approximately one goal every two games.

Seleznov was born in the Ukrainian city of Makiivka, in the province of Donetsk, on 20th July 1985. Having trained within the Shakhtar Donetsk youth ranks, he debuted with the team in the 06/07 season. Since then, he has had spells at Arsenal Kiev, Dnipro, Kuban Krasnodar, Kardemir Karabükpor and Akhisarspor, from where he now arrives. He has played 57 matches with his national team, scoring 11 goals, and arrives under the Club’s ownership until the end of the season.

Long career in Ukraine and a meeting with Muñiz

His first years as a professional took place in his native Ukraine. Following his debut with Shakhtar in 06/07, he was loaned out to Arsenal Kiev until the 08/09 season, when he returned to his former club. The following campaign, he transferred to Dnipro for five million euros, where he was named ‘pichichi’ of the team for the two seasons that made up his first stage at the club, with 17 and 19 goals respectively. In 11/12 he returned to the ‘miner’ side, where he was also named top-scorer on the squad with 14 goals. A season later, he returned to Dnipro where he coincided with current Malaguista coach, Juan Ramón López Muñiz who at that time was acting as second in command to ex Malaguista Juande Ramos.

Spell in Russia and Turkey

After the four seasons during his second stage with the Blues, he left his country and headed to Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar for one campaign. Following this he returned to Shakhtar Donetsk for his fourth and final time, ending in the winter transfer window when he landed in Turkey. Seleznov’s replacement on the Ukrainian side was his soon-to-be new teammate with the Blue and Whites, Blanco Leschuk. In Turkey, he wore the jerseys of Kardemir Karabükspor and Akhisarspor, from where he now arrives at Málaga.

Goal-scoring ability and an international

The stats show that Seleznov is a great striker with an eye for goals. He has netted 161 goals in 377 games, making an average of one goal per two matches. In addition, he has two ‘Pichichis’ in the Ukrainian Premier League (10/11 with Dnipro and 11/12 with Shakhtar Donetsk).

Yevhen is also an international, making his first appearance with the Ukraine national football team on 24/05/2008 against Holland. Since then, he has taken part in 57 games, two in the Euro 2016, and has scored 11 goals.

Achievements

Seleznov has won a Europa League title (08/09), a Ukrainian Super Cup (08/09), three Ukrainian Premier Leagues (11/12, 12/13 and 16/17), two Ukrainian Cups (11/12 and 16/17), a Turkish Cup (17/18) and a Turkish Super Cup (18/19).
