A hard-fought match in Vallecas adds another point to the pot (0-0)

All square for Málaga CF and Rayo Vallecano in Madrid on matchday 37 of LaLiga SmartBank.

The Malaguistas faced one another this Thursday evening at the Madrid stadium, in what was another historic match behind closed doors following the national lockdown.

On the pitch, the locals went out with the clear aim of opening the scoring as soon as possible. However, time and again they came up against the robust Blue and White defence (wearing the pink strip tonight) repelling the rival attacks with solvency.

After the first quarter of an hour, Munir again showed his brilliance in goal deflecting a powerful attempt from inside the area. This was the locals’ best opportunity of the first half.

Málaga were also determined to take the lead, but without success, and at half-time the scoreboard remained at 0-0.

The second half took a different turn. Pellicer’s men stepped out completely focused on the attack. Cifu had a superb opportunity soon after the game resumed. The right-back headed a long ball coming from midfield, as he did when he scored the first goal against Girona. The attempt from the edge of the area was thwarted by a false exit from the keeper, and the ball missed the target by centimetres (50’).

The next great Malaguista opportunity also stemmed from a header. Buenacasa finished an accurate cross from Juanpi with the ball aimed at the far post, but the rival keeper got between the striker and the goal. From then on, the Malaguista approaches kept on coming, but with no luck in front of goal. Rayo also went all out for a win in the closing stages, but the strong defence and Munir deactivated the home side’s attempts. The final result was 0-0 and the teams share the points.
