A goal in the last minute condemns Málaga (1-0)

The Blue and Whites suffered a minimal defeat against UD Las Palmas at Estadio de Gran Canaria. Halilovic scored for the Yellows in minute 89.

The match got underway with both teams solid in defence and aware of the importance of not conceding a goal in the initial stages of play. Ideye debuted in an official match wearing the Blue and White jersey tonight, and his team sought out an early opener without success at the start. UD Las Palmas dominated possession, whilst José González’s team looked for rapid exits to leave the rival behind. Samu García was on the verge of finding Ideye with a good pass, but the home side deflected well. Nigerian, Etebo launched a high ball from in front of the target in the replica move from the Gran Canaria outfit. Ignasi Miquel was shown the yellow card in 35’, and five minutes later it was Recio’s turn. The first half came to a close with a double approach from Paco Jémez’s side, the first was deflected by Roberto to a corner, and the second, a shot from Calleri, sailed over the Málaga crossbar.

The second half kicked off with no changes for either of the two teams. In the 51st minute, Samu showed poor control of the ball whilst face to face with Chichizola in goal. Five minutes later, it was Keko who had a shot at glory. It was a superb pass from Ideye, but the shot by the Malaguista number ‘20’ was repelled by the rival keeper. The Malaguista coach made some changes, and in minute 70 brought on Bueno in substitution of Recio. Keko was booked with a yellow card in 76’, and two minutes later, Success came on in place of Samu García. Málaga gave their all in the final stretch of the match. Keko made way for Juanpi three minutes before the end. When it seemed a tie was destined, in minute 89, Halilovic hunted the ball down inside the area and lashed it home with a tight shot (1-0).
