A comeback with a victory for Málaga dedicated to José Carlos Pérez (3-1)
Málaga Club de Fútbol faced Real Club Deportivo Mallorca in the 23rd match within the BBVA League at La Rosaleda stadium.
The match got underway with an intense start by Málaga, although they lost their first chance at a goal by Rondón, with Monreal not being able to reach the ball from Isco. Pereira took advantage of a chance at goal minutes later, the ball scraping the right side of the net, putting the visitors one goal up in the 4th minute.
Pereira’s goal didn’t dampen the Málaga spirits, who maintained goal possession and had several chances at goal. In the 11th minute Seba Fernández equalised, with a rebound shot from Aouate after a powerful kick from Rondón.
With a 1-1 draw, both teams had several chances to score, Castro for Mallorca from the left, and Isco, Rondón, Seba, as well as Sergio Sánchez and Monreal. However neither goalkeeper was forced to intervene, which continued until the half time whistle.
Mallorca had a chance at goal at the start of the second half: A lateral pass from Pereira giving Hemed a shot, but saved by Willy Caballero. Seba Fernández retaliated for Málaga straight after. After several minutes when the match wasn’t particularly intense, Málaga took their first corner and a shot deflected by Chico to Toulalan saw the second Málaga goal in the 55th minute.
Rondón scored the third goal for Málaga, kicking the ball straight to the back of the net past Aouate, following great game play by Isco passing to Sergio Sánchez, allowing the Venezuelan international to score in the 69th minute.
Mallorca had few chances to score during the remainder of the match, with Málaga having the majority of the ball possession.
Málaga Club de Fútbol are now in 7th place in the BBVA League with 31 points, level with the teams who are in the Europa League and a point away from fourth place in the Champion’s.
