6 out of 7... An historic stretch in the First Division

Málaga CF have won six of their last seven LaLiga matches, claiming 18 of a possible 21 points, securing the team’s best run of results in the top flight in a sequence of seven games.

Míchel’s Málaga are on a roll. They’re playing well, delighting their fans, scoring superb goals, barely conceding any, and winning week after week. They have accumulated four consecutive victories at La Rosaleda fortress, where the team has obtained 32 of their 45 points and 10 of their 12 League triumphs. In addition, they’ve clinched another four consecutive LaLiga wins, against Valencia (2-0), Sevilla (4-2) and Celta (3-0) at home, plus Granada (0-2) away, placing them in 11th place in the table.

This is already the best Málaga in the history of the elite, as MCF, counting a run of seven consecutive matches. Therefore, they have surpassed the previous streak of Pellegrini’s Málaga in the 2010/11 season, when they claimed 17 points (five victories and two draws) between the 31st and 37th LaLiga matches. They equal the same sequence of seven matches by CD Málaga in the 1973/74 season, when the team had six wins and one defeat between matchday 14 and 20 of the competition.

Stats to take into account:

  • Sandro matched, with his goal against Celta, the 14 League goals scored by Rondón in 2010/11. The striker has scored 7 goals in the last 7 matches, scoring consecutively in the last 4 games. The ‘pichichi’ has netted goals in 11 of Málaga’s 12 LaLiga victories, and in the only win when he didn’t score (2-1 against Las Palmas) he was not in action due to injury.
  • Scoring midfielders. It’s not only Sandro’s goals, whose contribution is 30% in relation to the team’s total goals, that have made this Málaga. Midfielders; Fornals (6) and Camacho (4) compete the podium of highest goal-scorers, not forgetting Recio who has scored 2 goals in the last 4 matches.
  • Top 4 in shots per game. Málaga CF have significantly increased their shooting capacity in recent games, putting them fourth in the League of most shots per game. The average, 12’8 per match, is only surpassed by Real Madrid CF (17’7), FC Barcelona (17’2) and Club Atlético de Madrid (13’6).
