Roberto: “We’re going to compete and fight against Atleti”

The Malaguista goalkeeper, and former Atlético player, analysed Saturday’s match against the Madrid side: “We’re going into it full of excitement and with desire to achieve our first points, that will give us a boost of confidence.”

Desire

“Getting back to competing is what in the end gives you the chance to reverse a bad run, a bad situation. I see the team in training really looking forward to Saturday.”

Positives

“Without offering the best of our team, we should have got a bit more in each of the games we have played. But in the end, the analysis has to be to move things forward positively. We have to focus on how we’re making things better than they were the day before.”

Helping out the team

“Personally, I feel good. I believe that I can help out my team, but the important thing is that the results come in, that I intervene less and less and the team’s solvent.”

Improvement

“Our improvement in order to be a better team in defense, to allow few goal chances, to concede few goals and from there on in, move on and convert this solid defense into attack and goals. The match against Atlético de Madrid will be the beginning of this, we’re putting the difficulties behind us and we’re going to make it us who is getting the opportunities. We’re going to try and be on top.”

Excitement

“We’re going into it really excited and with the desire to move on from what’s gone on in the last three matches, to get our first points, which will be a big boost to our confidence moving forward. Atlético de Madrid have turned into a strong team that know how to compete at 100 per cent. This match is bringing together lots of special things for everyone. We’re premiering in a stadium and them their new home. We’ll try and take advantage of all the possibilities that we’re given.”

Atlético past

“It’s a gift to be able to be first in this new stadium. It’s been 15 years seeing this shirt, going to Calderon as a boy, as a fan, as a boy ball, and then having the chance to debut there. They didn’t invite me to the farewell but I’m invited to the premiere. I’m going to really enjoy it. It’s going to be special match.”

Compete and fight

“We’re going to compete, of that I’m sure. It’s not going to be an easy match, not a comfortable one for Atlético de Madrid. We’re going to fight.”
