Nelson Monte: “I’m very confident that we’ll return the club to where it deserves to be”

The Malaguista defender appeared in the 'Juan Cortés' press room before welcoming Antequera CF to La Rosaleda on Saturday.

Union at a key moment

My message is simple. In the next month, the club, the team and the fans are going to enter one of the most important moments in Málaga's history, to return the club to where it should be. I’m very confident that we are going to do that job. It’s a message of unity with which to achieve what we all want, both the fans and players.”

All for one

I understand the noise that can come from outside due to the results of the last few games. I’m not asking for the fans’ support, since we’ve had it throughout the season. I ask that there be no doubts and that we all stick together, only then will we be able to move up. It’s clear that we have to improve, both in terms of results and at a disciplinary level. It's not about words, but about working towards this important moment.”

Time to work and show what we can do

“We must insist on the work we’re doing, and I have maximum confidence in that. As I said before, we have to improve. There’s no time to talk, only to work. We have two weeks left to face the playoffs in the best way. The competition isn’t over and we want third place.”

Maximum confidence in everyone

Confidence is maximum, both in the coach and in the club. At the beginning we lost against Castellón, but the rest of the season we’ve been in a playoff position, although it is true that he wanted us to be promoted directly. I know that we are going to make it to the playoff, and in the end we’ll look at the numbers.”

A Blue and White future

It was more my decision than Málaga's to sign a long contract. My permanence does not depend on whether we are promoted or not. Of course, I don’t want to play in the Primera Federación, but I have a clear idea that we are going to be promoted.”

A rival with nothing to lose

Yesterday and today we trained very well. We are going to face a team that plays very good football, but does not have much to lose. I focus more on us, we must work hard and make every effort. Our season is not over yet, and we can still reach third place.”

Attacking work in training

In the last few games we’ve not given a good response on an attacking level, and a lot of work has been done on it yesterday and today. With Mérida, we had many chances to score, and we narrowly missed out. In San Fernando the game was not good, and we have to improve offensively.”

Anecdotal goal, but not enough

“There’s a difference from the club we represent, in others there would be jokes. We left the game against San Fernando with a feeling of defeat. Alfonso himself went to the goal quickly since he wanted to win the game and did not celebrate much. I’m very happy for Alfonso, but I don’t think he enjoyed the goal because he wanted to win.”

Step forward as a team

In the end this is a team, if I'm playing a bad game today, my teammate should notice it. When things aren’t right, it shows in both veterans and young players. We must stop talking as the important moment arrives. We are going to take a step forward, young players, experienced players, the club… and we are going to get promoted.”
