Málaga CF in mourning following the death of Alberto Martín

Alberto Martín was an outstanding CD Málaga player. He will always be remembered for that historic hat trick against Real Madrid in the mighty 6-2 win. Rest in peace.

Our beloved Alberto passed away yesterday at 67 years old. A historic player in the 80s, who gave us one of the most beautiful and historic nights for Malaguismo. With his hat trick he contributed to the 6-2 victory for the Blue and Whites against Real Madrid on 11th September 1983.

Alberto Martín Goikoetxea, born in Santurce (Bizkaia), signed to CD Málaga in the 1979/80 season. He remained with the Martiricos entity for seven seasons, until 85/86, playing 212 official matches, scoring 18 goals and becoming one of the team’s icons during the 80s.

After debuting and playing with Athletic Club in the First Division, he signed to Barakaldo before moving to CD Málaga in the 1979/80 season. During the seven seasons he was with CD Málaga, four were in the First Division and three in the Second, achieving promotion in 81/82.

A midfielder with arrival, he was one of the players who was part of CD Málaga's historic 6-2 victory over Real Madrid in the 83/84 season, scoring three of the six goals. He also scored a goal in another memorable victory, the 5-1 win against Atlético de Madrid that same season.

Málaga CF profoundly feels this loss and would like to convey our deepest condolences to family and friends.

RIP Alberto Martín.
