Alfonso Herrero: “I understand the unrest; we didn’t play well”
The Málaga CF goalkeeper and scorer spoke to the media minutes after the draw in San Fernando. “We have to be self-critical, look at what we do wrong and improve it; not by saying it but by doing it,” he said.
Draw
“We’re a little upset after not being able to get the three points, but I’m happy for the goal.”
Match review
“We didn’t play well, there were many counterattacks. We should have done much more, we have to be self-critical to see that we have to change things.”
More positive second half
“It wasn’t a second half to write home about. However, it was better, there was a good reaction from the team, but we have to look at what we do wrong and improve it; not by saying it but by doing it.”
Late goal
“It was more heart than anything else. I was angry with how the game was going and I went up to the finish. Antoñito served up an incredible ball, I'm not very good at heading the ball. I brushed against it a little, it touched a defender, and it went in. I asked the referee to note it down for me, I don't know if he’ll award it to me or not. It would be the first goal in my career, which I’m happy about, but today is a day that I would have liked the team to have given a little more and we would leave here happier.”
Promotion playoffs
“The playoff is another world. We want to arrive with good feelings, but in a playoff anything can happen and playing it with La Rosaleda behind us is something very important for us.”
Unrest amongst the fans
“I understand. We want the fans to help us, they do and I understand that, when there are no good feelings, they expect more. I also expect more, we are annoyed about that. We have to start the matches in a better way.”
Difficult phase
“There have been good moments, we are in a moment of the season that is difficult. It's no excuse, we have to take that step forward. The games usually change a lot and the teams at the bottom push because they also have a lot at stake. Hopefully this dynamic will help us to turn it around and next weekend we’ll make our fans happy at home.”
