A three-rival fight for the women’s Copa de Andalucía

Atlético Málaga will be in action against Sporting Huelva and Real Betis at Puente Genil on Sunday, in the triangular final of the women’s Copa de Andalucía.

Manuel Hernández Navarrete’s girls are up against Sporting Huelva and Real Betis in the fight for the title of Andalucían champions.  Three teams for just one title.  This peculiar situation is because La Rambla, who compete in group 4 of the Women’s Second Division along with the ‘Malaguistas’ and Betis, left the competition for internal reasons during the semi-finals against Sporting Huelva.  Following the decision made by the Córdoba-based team, the Andalucían Federation opted to put the three remaining teams in the final rather than choose a substitute team.

Therefore the three teams will compete in a triangular formation consisting of 45 minute-long matches, taking place at the Manuel Policarpio in Puente Geníl.

The first game will take place between Betis and At. Málaga at 11 a.m.  The second, at 12 p.m., will be between the losers of the first match against Sporting Huelva; whilst the last match, an hour later, will see Huelva face the winner of the first match.

Sporting Huelva are the current champions of the Copa Andalucía and Copa de la Reina.  They tend to focus on set pieces and games of strategy, with very organised and physically well prepared players.

The other rival, Real Betis are known for their good gameplay, with one of their main threats being striker, Paula, who is lethal inside the area.

This will be a great challenge for our players, who will try and overcome both teams to claim the title which they missed out on in last year’s final.
