Zaragoza, kilometre 26

The first point earned by Málaga Club de Fútbol in the ‘Natxo era’, at the always imposing La Romareda stadium.

Yesterday’s 1-1 draw in Zaragoza featured numerous highlights that we look at below:

Delicious detail from Antoñín

The player from La Palmilla scored a top goal to put Málaga in front in minute 26 of the first half. With a devastating start, he overcame rivals with a devilish speed and subtle definition with the outside of his foot in front of the goalkeeper. Sterling work by Antoñín who celebrated it in style, knowing the importance of his goal.

The reflexes of Dani Barrio

The second consecutive match in the starting line-up for the keeper from Asturias, with a remarkable performance in goal. Particularly during the energetic start by the home side featuring several arrivals he successful saved with great reflexes. Dani’s superb save following Lluís López’s attempt in 2’ will possibly make the Top 5 of LaLiga SmartBank matchday 26.

Natxo’s changes

The Malaguista coach, in his second match at the helm of the team, introduced up to six changes to the starting line-up. More than half a new team compared to the 11 called-up at Anduva. The majority of changes were seen in defence, bringing on Lombán, Peybernes and Cufré. Escassi moved from central defence to the pivot, Paulino and goal-scorer Antoñín refreshed the wings, whilst Roberto was upfront. Natxo wants everyone pumped up and raring to go.

Ball of oxygen

Following two painful defeats against Ibiza and Mirandés, it was essential to bring points home from Aragón. Especially against a current direct rival in the standings, and also in terms of a negative run of results. Málaga competed, yet still suffered from set pieces, but ended with good feelings and even a chance for Paulino to take the team 1-2 up. A point that provides oxygen to face the next challenge at home against the powerful Almería.
