Women’s team deserved more against Real Sociedad (1-3)

Paula Fernández scored the only Blue and White goal of a game that Antonio Contreras’ team dominated, but they didn’t manage to sustain the 1-1 draw.

Málaga CF Femenino suffered a 1-3 defeat to Real Sociedad on Liga Iberdrola matchday 17. The goal from Paula Fernández – the midfielder’s first this season – wasn’t enough to score any points in a game from which the local side deserved more.

The Blue and Whites dominated possession during the initial stages of play and made dangerous approaches to Mariasun’s goal area on two occasions. Paula Fernández had the first in minute 4’, the rival keeper made an error on the pass and the Malaguista stole the ball, although she lost it on the back line due to pressure from the rival defence. Three minutes later Adriana surprised the goalkeeper, but the ball skimmed the crossbar. The match was tinted Blue and White as Málaga besieged the Real goal. The clearest chance to open the scoring came after 23 minutes with a shot from Míriam that escaped by a few centimetres past the left post. Despite the good gameplay shown by Antonio Contreras’ girls, Real Sociedad made the most of a chance in 33’ in which Nahikari scored the 0-1 from a possible offside play. At half-time the scoreboard showed a 0-1 lead for the visitors.

The second half kicked off with a more active display from the ‘txuriurdin’ side on the field of play. They had various goal opportunities that were intercepted by Chelsea. The Blue and Whites had the option to go level with a shot from Pamela in 58’ that was rejected by Mariasun, and Raquel had the chance to equalise following a corner that ended without success. Málaga found the goal in 67’ when Adriana served the ideal ball from the corner flag, perfectly controlled by Paula that she slammed into the back of the net. However, in 75’ Etxezarreta was unmarked inside the area and overcame Chelsea to take a 1-2 lead. Two minutes later, Nahikari scored the definitive 1-3 final result.
