Willy: “Our job is to prepare for the start of the League and the Champions play-off”

Málaga CF’s Willy Caballero held a press conference this Friday morning, in La Rosaleda’s press room.

Statements

(Situation surrounding the Club) “The situation has been tough at times, but we need to just psych ourselves up and be prepared.  It was a really tense atmosphere up until the 31st, but luckily the team pulled together and stepped up preparations for the start of the season.  This sort of thing happens in other Clubs aswell, and now it’s Málaga’s turn.  However as players, we need to focus on the game and ensure we’re match-ready.”

“It’s difficult to talk about certain things, with so many rumours flying around over the last few days.  We need to distance ourselves somewhat, as our job is to prepare for the start of the League and the Champions play-off, which is the most important thing for everyone right now, as well as the tour of Italy and Greece.  We continue to show our professionalism and strength as a team, and hope that next year will be our best yet.”

(Italy – Greece tour) “It’s amazing to be able to visit these lovely places.  We’re playing these matches due to our success last season, so we need to make the most of these opportunities, and show that we’re ready.  They’re both tough teams to beat, with a lot of history, however I’ll be proud to defend the Málaga colours against these two teams.”

(Continuity) “My contract with Málaga is for several more years yet, I’m really happy here and not looking elsewhere.”

(Continuity of the coach) “We’d stand to lose a fantastic coach, who has achieved great things and made history with the Club.  When anyone leaves a Club, something important is lost, just as if it was Santi or any other player; everyone is important and plays a crucial part in achieving our goals.  I think he’s a great coach, and it would be a big loss if he left the Club.  He gives his all in every training session, and always supports us 100 per cent.”
