Málaga CF Femenino defeated CF Femenino Cáceres by a hard-fought 1-2 on matchday 5 of Reto Iberdrola. José Herrera’s girls took the lead twice to obtain the first win of the season. Blue and White goals were scored by Edna, in 20', and Adriana, in 68'.
After the initial 10 minutes of play, during which both teams disputed possession of the ball, the Malaguistas were more effective. They were accurate in their inside passes and easily out-marked the rival defence. Following an approach to Tatiana’s goal without success, Adriana assisted Edna with a cross allowing the Nigerian player to head the ball into the back of the net to take the team 0-1 in front. A minute later, Arantxa had a one-on-one with the Cáceres keeper and came close to increasing her team’s lead, but the keeper blocked the shot.
Málaga felt comfortable and although CF Femenino Cáceres advanced their lines, the Blue and White defence remained firm. At the end of normal time, in 46’ Olmedo committed a foul inside the area and the referee awarded a penalty to the locals. Alicia converted from the penalty spot to take the score to 1-1 at half-time.
Back on the pitch, José Herrera’s girls had two consecutive opportunities. The first came from a free kick from Adriana. María Ruiz headed the ball, but it escaped at the right post. The second was for Buceta, who tried her luck with a precise shot that sailed over the crossbar.
Cáceres had a chance to take the lead via Nerea, but Postigo saved the attempt without any problems. The Malagueñas continued the fight to break the deadlock and did it in 68’ with a goal from team captain, Adriana. Following a goal kick from Noelia, Adriana’s shot from inside the area slammed into the net to go 1-2 up.
Play continued normally and in 79’ Naiara came on in place of Arantxa. The homegrown Malagueña debuted with the first team and up to minute 90’, four players from the MCF Academy defended the winning result. Despite the fact both teams had chances to increase the score, the final result was 1-2. As such, Málaga CF Femenino achieved the first victory of the season, and is the first team in Reto Iberdrola to defeat this rival at their home ground.
