Velasco Carballo to referee quarter-final second leg against Athletic Club

Carlos Velasco Carballo will officiate the third consecutive match against Athletic Club, corresponding to the Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg taking place on Thursday at San Mamés, kicking off at 10 p.m.

The Madrid-born referee has arbitrated two of Málaga CF’s previous Copa del Rey games; a win in 2010/11 against Hércules (3-2) and the 2004/05 defeat against Lorca Deportiva (5-2).

This will be the second time the referee has been in charge of a match between these two rivals.  The last time he officiated in a Málaga CF – Athletic Club match was in 2010/11.  The Blue and Whites took the lead 10 minutes before the final whistle, and the rival equalised with a minute to go.

Throughout his career, Velasco Carballo has refereed 17 Málaga CF matches, nine of which ended in victory, two draws and six defeats.  The most recent defeat with Velasco Carballo in charge was in 2009/10, therefore the last seven games officiated by the Madrid-born ref resulted in five wins and two draws.

In Málaga CF’s away games, Velasco Carballo has refereed six times, ending in three victories and three defeats.
