Van Nistelrooy: “We’re enjoying the moment alongside the people”

MCF’s Dutch-born forward, Ruud Van Nistelrroy, spoke to the sports media today, Wednesday, in the Ciudad de Málaga stadium’s press room.

Personal and key goal Barcelona
“I do my thing, I think about what I have to do.  I’m a footballer, I want to play as much as possible, and if I don’t play, I want to help put the team to the max, and nothing else.  My goal?  I feel happy when I score an important goal.  Before the season, I was hoping for more, but I’m happy with how things are going at the Club and how I’m helping the team.  I hope to score in the forthcoming games.  I keep on working as I did at the beginning of the season and, hopefully, I can help the team even more and move further up.  250th goal in leagues?  It was a great moment. Scoring, especially when you’ve not scored that many.  Also the moment, and the dressing room is wonderful.  The best dressing room of my career and that means a lot.”

Serenity
“In football things can change very quickly.  The most important thing is that we know what we’re doing.  We’re enjoying the moment alongside the people, we’re hugely excited but there are still nine matches to go.  We don’t think we’re the best, quite the opposite, we’re humble and hopefully on the 13th May we can celebrate something very special.  When we lost three or four matches before Christmas, he (Pellegrini) said that we’re in a process of recuperation.  We’re aware of what we have to do.”

Future
“It’s an open theme.  I’m all about what’s happening now and I almost forget that I need to make a decision about my career.  It’s a good sign, in a few weeks we’re going to talk to the Club and see what happens.  I’m going to need more time, I was hoping to make a decision in March, but it’s going to be more towards the end of the season now.  Málaga my last team?  For sure.  I have to see, it’s still open, I’m not sure whether to carry on or stop.  It’s best to leave it like that; my future isn’t the most important thing for the team.”

Squad / Rondón
“What I see is the whole squad’s great effort.  We’ve some important injuries, and the squad has an enormous job to do.  It’s a big plus and congratulations to the person who formed the team, Antonio Fernández.  I spoke with him in Hamburg a year ago and he showed me his ideas and now it’s an impressive reality.  Rondón?  I think he’s very impressive.  He’s improving a lot, and not just by scoring.  He’s a reference point, he’s holding the ball strong, and with his age he’s managed a very good level.  He has a great future.  We chat and have a good relationship.”

End of the season
“The important thing is to continue working as we are.  If you could choose, everyone would say Champions.  But we’re not in a position to choose, we have to deliver.  But that’s at the end of the season and we can’t talk about it now.  We know from where we came, we began the season with a new squad, with lots of pressure, and we can’t throw away all the work we’ve done.  The secret?  You’ve got to carry on working in the way wee have been, and to have the fans that are always with us.  They give us strength and desire to play.”

Real Madrid... And Málaga
“A foot and a half in the door? No, both feet!  It’s a given, in the semi final, and we’re not even half a foot in either Champions or the Europa League.  We have to earn that.”
