Valladolid, kilometre 9

Málaga CF hadn’t visited the José Zorrilla for an official match since the 13/14 season. The lads claimed a hard-fought point against one of the favourites for promotion, Real Valladolid.

Check out some of the highlights from last Friday’s 1-1 draw in Pucela:

Brandon, the idyll wearing the number ‘9’

More than deserved first goal with the Malaguistas for Brandon Thomas. He deserved it for his effort and chances in previous games, and it arrived from the penalty spot following a foul on Paulino. Coincidentally, the number ‘9’ scored a hattrick on matchday 9, as he did five years ago, also on matchday 9 and almost on the same day (9th October 2016) with Mallorca against Huesca.

Stand out performance from Dani Martín

Every time Valladolid launched an attempt at goal, except for the great goal by Óscar Plano, they came up against the mighty Malaguista keeper. Decisive in numerous one-on-ones, the final one in stoppage time, Dani showed he’s getting more and more match fit, despite not having any minutes last season with Real Betis.

Centenary for José Alberto

Despite his young age, the Málaga coach is almost a veteran in the silver division. After standing out in the Real Sporting de Gijón dugout and consolidating himself within CD Mirandés, he has reached the 100-match mark in LaLiga SmartBank with MCF at the start of this season. Congratulations, and here’s to many more, mister!

Point away from home

We certainly needed it! Following consecutive defeats against the top three teams in the standings, Almería, Ponferradina and Sporting, Málaga CF scored a point outside La Rosaleda, the second point away from home this season. Let’s make the most of it and focus on the three points next weekend at home against Real Zaragoza to move closer to the promotion playoff positions.
