Through to the next round with a big win against Peña Sport (0-3)

Málaga CF have qualified to the next round of the Copa del Rey after beating Peña Sport at the San Francisco in Tafalla. Paulino and Lombán in the first half, and Roberto in the second, scored the goals.

It was a cold night in Tafalla at the San Francisco ground for the ‘match of the year’ for the home side. On the pitch, which was wet and uneven from the rainfall, José Alberto made numerous changes.

Dani Barrio returned to goal; Calero, Isma Casas and Cufré were in defence; Ismael Gutiérrez was in the pivot of midfield with Jairo and Haitam on the wings.

The first dangerous approach came in 5’, the work of Cufré on the left. The locals ceded the weight of play and possession to MCF in the opening stages. Without any chances until 26’, Haitam tried his luck with a shot from distance. Two minutes later, Paulino narrowly missed out on a goal from a similar action.

Málaga went all in out in search of a goal and found one, A cross from Jairo on the left was headed into the net by Paulino (0-1, 32').

Cufré, with a direct free kick in 35', came close to a second. Roberto tried his luck with a header towards the target from a Calero cross (39’). Haitam, again Roberto and Isma Casas, following a corner, also came close to a goal. Then just before the half-time whistle, it happened. A foul on an omnipresent Jairo led to a penalty converted by captain Lombán (0-2, 47').

At the start of the second half there was a triple Malaguista substitution: Peybernes, Javi Jiménez and Antoñín came on in place of Lombán, Cufré and Paulino.

Around 10 minutes into the second half, Dani Lorenzo made his first team debut, stepping on to the pitch wearing the number 42 in place of Haitam.

A Dani Barrio save from a Mikel long shot interrupted the Malaguista dominance in Tafalla. Antoñín, Jairo and Iván Calero had opportunities to seal the win. Once again, Jairo made a superb play, this time from the right, with control and a back pass to allow Roberto to send the ball to the back of the net (0-3, min 74).

From then on, the pace of play slowed down, although Roberto came close to scoring the team’s fourth goal with a header that landed in the hands of local keeper, Mendióroz.

With this result, Málaga CF achieve their first away win of the season and are through to the second round of the Cup competition.
