Temporary exhibition opens at Museum & Tour to celebrate 110th anniversary of ‘Malaguistas’

Football in Málaga capital reaches 110 years old today. The first football match in Málaga took place on 3rd April 1904, a key moment in the origins of Málaga Club de Fútbol, with 3,000 people in attendance at the ‘Fuente de las Tres Gracias’.

To celebrate, Málaga CF captain Sergio Barbosa Valente 'Duda', along with Club vice president, Moayad Shatat; advisory consultant, Antonio Fernández Benítez; director general, Vicente Casado; and assistant director general, Manuel Novo, conducted a tour of the Museum & Tour at La Rosaleda today, through which a number of events taking place in the coming months have been inaugurated to celebrate this special anniversary.  They all enjoyed the new historical showcase, which includes a selection of team shirts from over the years, and the ‘Flecha Azul’ legendary coach that transported the first team players to matches in the 60’s and 70’s, will be parked outside next to the current coach from the Vázquez Olmedo company.  The first driver of the ‘Flecha Azul’ coach, Andrés Perales was present during today’s tour, along with José Ramón Rodríguez, the president of the Málaga Association of the Restoration and Recovery of Coaches (Tran-Bus); and Salvador Cobos, the ‘Malagueño’ artist whose painting of the ‘Flecha Azul’ will be on display next to the coach.

Temporary exhibition opens at MCF Museum & Tour
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Museum & Tour is holding a temporary exhibition to celebrate 110 years since the first football match took place in Málaga.  Visitors to the museum this month will also have the chance, through a special showcase, to see an exhibition of famous ‘Malaguista’ team shirts from years gone by.  The usual route of the Museum & Tour will be changed to include the ‘Flecha Azul’, the first coach used to transport the ‘Malaguista’ first team in the 60’s and 70’s, which will be on show at La Rosaleda car park.

Included in the ticket to the Museum & Tour is a discount on the purchase of the ‘1904 football’, a replica of the traditional ball used in matches at the beginning of the 20th century.

Statements by Antonio Benítez
“I’ve got so many wonderful memories and stories from back then.  Today’s players are more talented both physically and technically.  Personally, I would like to have been Málaga’s equipment manager.  Of the current squad, I suppose I was like Tissone, stronger physically, but I could see my style of play in ‘Gato’ Romero.  I’ve been reminded of some great people today (emotional).”
