Sheikh Al Thani represents the Club at ECA General Assembly

Malaguista president, Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani was present at the General Assembly of the European Club Association (ECA) held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Presidential adviser, Carlos Pérez accompanied Málaga CF owner, Sheikh Al Thani at the 17th ECA General Assembly, with representation from 153 European clubs, held at Hotel Président Wilson in Switzerland.

This event, held midway through the ECA’s 2015-17 cycle, consisted of two days of group meetings, plenary and institutional sessions, an assessment of the present and future of competitions, and the financial aspects of the same.

The main points discussed were the benefits to clubs in relation to the last UEFA 2016 European Championship; the future format (new concept) of UEFA competitions to come into effect in the 2018-21 cycle; and everything related to financial Fair Play of clubs.

ECA president, legendary former German player, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the following about future changes in European football: “The new concept that has been adopted by the UEFA Executive Committee is not a revolution; it is an evolution. An evolution which we all welcome. We are extremely pleased with the way our relationship with UEFA has developed, and the voice of the clubs in European football continues to be heard and respected.”
