Sergio Sánchez: “The team wants to compete”

Málaga defender, Sergio Sánchez, attended a press conference on Monday morning at the Ciudad de Málaga stadium.

"Since we started the league we’ve not got the rhythm, and it feels a little strange, to be honest.  But we’ve taken advantage of these few days to put our feet up, rest a little bit, and now we’ve lot of desire to begin again. It’s fallen on us to play on Monday, you couldn’t make it, but it doesn’t matter because the team is ready to start competing again.  We want to make big strides forward"

"It’s important not to stand still when you’re not competing. The three-way tournament for Lorca was very good for us.  We played against high-ranking teams such as Villareal and Valencia, and the vibes were good."

"A defeat always hurts, but it’s not going to drag us down.  It was a defeat at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium, which is a very difficult ground to play.  We went out to play them on equal terms; but it’s the beginning of the league, and any team can take a tumble.  It happened to us but the team took it well.  But this week the team is going to win for sure."

"There’s a big difference competing in friendlies and in official matches. Sevilla had already done it and it was noticeable on the pitch."

"Granada, despite being a newly promoted team, is a battling team, with young players who want to prove themselves.  Having the coach that we have, we’re not going to be too confident or rest too much on our laurels.  The team must go out to win wherever we are.  We have to start winning now, to allow us to be as high up the table as possible later on."

"To achieve something important, above all to get some good points at home, but also we have to think about getting those points away too.  Like I said, Málaga has the team, character and personality to win at any ground."

"Adapting has been easy; the guys have made it very easy for me.  Also, I knew many of them before.  In addition, the lifestyle is very similar to that of my home land."
