Santa Cruz: “We lacked a bit of confidence when it came to goal chances”

Málaga CF striker, Roque Santa Cruz appeared alongside Tissone and Sergi Darder in La Rosaleda’s mixed zone following tonight’s game.

Santa Cruz says: “It never sits well with us when we lose a game, particularly when we could have taken advantage of a slow start and the goal opportunities we had in the first half.  However I think we were unlucky, and the rival keeper was extremely fortunate to save a number of promising shots at goal.  We lacked a bit of confidence when it came to goal chances, but I think on the whole we performed well.  I hope we learn from this game and start every match now with more intensity from kick off, instead of later on in the game.”

Sergi Darder opines about tonight’s match against Real Sociedad; “We lacked a certain degree of unity during the first half.  We didn’t put enough pressure on the rival and were somewhat disorganised on the pitch.  I think the result is unfair as following their one goal opportunity, a mistake on the counter attack cost us the match.  We’re not in a critical situation; although we’re way down the table, I believe with patience and above all, strength, we can work our way back up.”

Lastly, Tissone adds: “It often takes other teams less effort to score goals, but for us it’s taking much more.  Our situation isn’t helping either, as we’re sometimes not in the right frame of mind to ‘up our game’ when we need to, particularly three quarters of the way into a match.  Although we’re going through a difficult time, we’re all incredibly motivated to push forward and achieve positive results.”
