Sabadell, kilometre 11

Such an important victory. Málaga CF defeated Antonio Hidalgo’s Sabadell by 1-2, repeating the result from CD Málaga’s last visit to the Nova Creu Alta 29 years ago.

There were many positives from #SabadellMálaga that we highlight in our particular kilometre:

Multi-purpose Calero

Calero again showed his ability to conform to an unnatural position. This time, on the left wing, he played a good game and scored the 0-1 following a superb wall with Jairo. His versatility and consistency make him, after Escassi, the Malaguista to have played the most minutes of the season (926).

‘Pichichi’ Chavarría

The Argentine forward was decisive, scoring the 1-2 with a stunning goal following a great Yanis cross. The third league goal for Pablo in four shots at the target (total of nine out of eight games played) so far this season. His Mbappé celebration, as a tribute to his son (a fan of the French star) didn’t go unnoticed.

Julio in the starting-11 and the return of Ismael

Pellicer never hesitates to turn to the homegrown players. On the one hand, he placed Julio Martínez in the starting line-up for the first time in LaLiga SmartBank. The Valencian player moved well between the lines at the helm of the attack and he generated a great scoring opportunity. In addition, a fully fit Ismael Casas was back in the starting-11, who covered a lot of ground on the right wing. The Academy always contributes.

9 points away from home out of 17

In six matches away from La Rosaleda, Málaga obtained a total of nine points, with wins in Castellón (0-1) and Zaragoza (1-2) before the Sabadell victory. This represents more than 50% of the key points to claim 7th place in the table, tied with 5th place (Almería), with a +7 advantage on the places marking permanence. Simply undeniable.

Memories of Sabadell

Málaga’s previous visit to Sabadell, as Club Deportivo, was in the 91/92 season, also in the silver division. Almost on the same matchday (matchday 12 that season), and in November (17th) with the same final result (1-2). Calero became Manuel Molina (first official goal for both with Málaga) and Julio became Basti (first time in the starting-11 in a league game for both homegrown players). The only thing missing was the debut of Joaquín Muñoz…Another right winger, that day Diego López from Cártama was in action and made his Malaguista debut. What a coincidence!
