Málaga – Burgos match preview

Málaga CF host Burgos CF at La Rosaleda on LALIGA HYPERMOTION matchday 23. The match opens this round of the competition, kicking off on Friday at 20:30.

• Two historic clubs, CD Málaga and Real Burgos, faced each other once in the Second Division at La Rosaleda during the landmark 1987/88 season. Kubala’s ‘Super Málaga’ triumphed 5-0 over Sergio Kresic’s Burgos in the 7th league round on 18th October 1987, with goals from Rivas, Paquito (2), José Hurtado, and Juanito.

Juanito, an icon of two promotions. The Fuengirola-born legend played for Burgos between 1973 and 1977; the year he began his illustrious career with Real Madrid. Wearing the number 7 jersey at just 21, he was instrumental in Burgos’ promotion to the top flight, scoring 6 goals in 28 matches during the 1975/76 season. After concluding his time at Real Madrid in 1987, Juan Gómez returned home at 33, helping CD Málaga secure promotion to the First Division in 1987/88 with 10 goals in 37 league matches.
