Stats and facts

• This will be the fourth time Burgos CF and Málaga CF, under their current names, face each other in the Second Division at El Plantío. In previous encounters, Burgos have won twice (3-0 in 2021/22 and 1-0 in 2022/23) and there was one draw (0-0 in 2024/25).

CD Málaga visited El Plantío nine times: four in the First Division and five in the Second Division. Their record against Burgos CF stands at six losses and two draws, with a single victory coming against Real Burgos, a 0-1 win in the historic 1987/88 season with a goal by Mario Husillos, which contributed to the ‘Súper Málaga’ promotion to the elite.

Juanito, the Fuengirola legend, began his professional career at Burgos, where he spent four seasons (1973–77) and achieved promotion to the top flight in 1975/76. At the twilight of his career, after 10 years with Real Madrid, he returned to top-tier football with his hometown team in 1987/88 and later played in Primera with CD Málaga in 1988/89.

Burgueña, goalkeeper-turned-outfield player. In the match Burgos CF 2-1 CD Málaga on 10th May 1981, José Luis Burgueña, then Málaga’s substitute goalkeeper, came on as an outfield player, replacing Castro in the final moments of the game. Coincidentally, that day marked CD Málaga’s 700th match in the Second Division.

• In their nine seasons in the Second Division, Málaga CF’s record on matchday 7 stands at four wins, three draws, and two losses.
