Pellicer: “It’s been a rollercoaster wanting to win at home”

The Blue and White coach held a press conference at La Rosaleda following the 2-2 draw with Mirandés: “We had sufficient opportunities to get to half-time with a better lead, but after the goal we misadjusted somewhat”, he stated.

Vision of play

“The analysis, in principle, is that we had a good first half. Everything we’d worked on during the week came about during play. They didn’t feel comfortable on the pitch, we knew that the four players upfront could cause some dangerous situations in transitions, and we had some variations. We were a little more vertical and had sufficient opportunities to get to half-time with a better lead. However, in the second half, after we conceded a goal, we misadjusted somewhat. We attempted to reactivate with transitions, and after the 2-1, when the match was calmer, another situation arose that we weren’t expecting. Following the 2-2, we sent out a message that we were going for the game, then it became a rollercoaster. We should have closed the game up more, but with our determination to win the three points at our temple, of wanting to make the fans happy, we misadjusted our gameplay. In midfield we didn’t have the right peace of mind when we had the ball to allow us to wait for Antoñín or Sadiku to appear from the outside. It was like a boxing match. I believe in the first half we won, whereas they had 15 minutes of the second half where they were superior to us”.

Committed

“The team is upset as we wanted a home win today, but the players are all extremely committed. We know that we did a lot of things right, but we let victory escape on a few details. It was a wonderful opportunity to score three points and increase the distance from the relegation zone. It’s a struggle for us to win here. The Second Division is a brutal battle, so much so that it’s incredibly difficult to win. Our eagerness after the 2-2 of going for victory nearly lost us the point. We had the idea in our heads of winning all three points, and in going for them, we nearly lost the one we had”.
