The coach renews his contract with Málaga CF for the next two seasons - until 2026. The coach, after promotion to the Second Division, has accumulated 128 games at the helm of the Malaguista first team.
Sergio Pellicer García (09/09/1973, Nules – Castellón) is a coach who has trained, among other clubs, teams within the MCF Academy. With the Juvenil DH he established himself by winning the second Spanish Champions Cup in the Club's history, allowing the homegrown team to compete in the UEFA Youth League for the first time.
After a time as second coach and, later, as first coach of Atlético Malagueño (reserve team), Pellicer took over the reins of the Blue and White first team on an interim basis in mid-January 2020.
In the season and a half that he managed MCF, he achieved two tough stays in LaLiga SmartBank. Firstly, he had to manage the COVID-19 break and, in 20/21, a sports ERE and a suffocating sanction of a limited 18 professionals. Despite this complex framework, he achieved his objectives with some ease.
In the 22/23 season he returned to the Blue and White dugout with the difficult task of remaining in the Second Division. Despite the improvement, where he kept the hope alive we’d stay up, we saw an end to a 25-year streak in professional football.
As a Club man, faced with this tricky institutional, economic and sporting situation, Pellicer maintained his commitment to the team in a 23/24 season vital for the history of the Entity.
By creating a united and supportive group, and making the most of the potential of a young squad, he qualified the team for a historic promotion playoff. In each of the four qualifying matches he showed the strength of the group he had formed, achieving an epic promotion that is the history of Málaga Club de Fútbol.
The feat of returning the team to the Second Division only one year after relegation, together with the milestone of being the fourth coach with the most games on the Blue and White bench, and other notable merits such as the comfortable salvation in the 20/21 season, Sergio Pellicer's continuity awakens enthusiasm in the Malaguista Family to continue writing more chapters together.
The return to professional football is the beginning of a new page in Blue and White history, and Sergio Pellicer will continue to hold the pen that writes it.
