Pellegrini: “The second goal was very important”

The Malaguista manager, Manuel Pellegrini, spoke to the media after the 5-1 triumph against Zaragoza.

Pellegrini’s statements

Analysis of MCF vs Zaragoza
“It’s difficult to pin down the key. The first half was hard work, the Zaragoza defensive framework was very strong and I think the second goal was important, it lifted us and it was a good second half for the team.  Scoring always produces a notable difference, although there are many variants during a game.  Málaga’s way is through its play - and that’s what we’re looking for both home and away.  Scoring five goals is important; we generated many more chances in the second half.  In the first half we couldn’t maintain the rhythm of play.”

2-1, they key
“This was the same team who won against Espanyol, and I believe that they really felt the second goal, they were thrown off the game and we had more mobility.  I can understand what Manuel Jiménez is experiencing, but I reiterate that Zaragoza fought for every ball and it was a close game.  Frustrations are short-lived and I understand perfectly what he’s going through.”

Starting eleven and changes
“The team has made me feel more comfortable with what we’ve been doing, this is the same team who played at home with Mallorca and did so well, and we think the best thing to do is to maintain a team.  The team was achieved by all 14 who went out, Joaquín went on very well, Martín (Demichelis) went on very well and he got a fortunate goal, and Enzo Maresca went well to guarantee the game.”

Defensive margin for improvement
“This team has a certain way of playing, and they fact we scored goals doesn’t make us nervous.  The same thing hasn’t helped us out away, I believe that defensively we’re having some bad luck, but it’s important to maintain a secure defence and in this we need to improve as the goals scored against us show.”
