Statements by David Cabello
División de Honor Group IV champions
“Since the beginning of the season, we had marked the objective of continuing, for the fifth consecutive year, to compete in this tournament. It’s something that everyone thinks is easy to achieve, but far from it. It’s a tough competition in which we face great rivals, and this year, perhaps more so if possible, we need to give it utmost important because of the numerous problems we’ve had all season. In the end we achieved our goal, which is what we were looking to do, and hope we can enjoy competing with the best clubs in Spain”.
First rival, FC Barcelona
“Barça come from being European champions, they are major players and have a superb squad, but there’s no doubt we’re at the same level. The guys we have today, from over the generations, will compete and have a great championship. Afterwards, the match will be decided by minor details, but we’re going to play equally, with no fear, impose our idea of play and hopefully we’ll be able to take the match forward. They are going to be extremely hard-fought quarter-finals, which I’m sure will be determined by the small things. This team is ready to compete and take victory”.
Objective: champions
“Our goal is to be champions. As a squad, we have to opt for the maximum. We have various generations who are pushing hard, they are good players with good training. Their previous coaches have done a very good job. We’re in the final phase of training and development and I believe the Club has a great future ahead with these guys”.
Statements by Sergio Guerrero, ‘Mini’
First rival, difficult but not impossible
“Barça is a very difficult opponent, but in this type of tournament all the rivals are tough. They are European champions, but that for us is a motivation and we cannot wait for the match to arrive so we can show what we can do”.
United dressing room
“We are very united in the dressing room. We are aware of the rival we’re facing, but by sticking together and knowing what we need to do, I’m sure things will turn out well. We are very excited and cannot wait for Monday to show we can compete with Barça on a level playing field”.
