Sergio Pellicer García (Castellón, 1973) is the prototype of a man of the Club, who knows perfectly well a house he first came to as a player 25 years ago. Following a fruitful stage in the youth teams, in which he made history with the Juvenil ‘A’ when they became national champions, he was MCF second and assistant coach (2016-18) and became first coach of Atlético Malagueño this season.
Named interim coach in substitution of Víctor Sánchez del Amo, Pellicer has headed up Málaga CF since matchday 23 of LaLiga SmartBank 19/20, combining good gameplay with excellent results. Following his winning debut at La Rosaleda against Ponferradina (1-0), he accumulated three consecutive victories in the last three matches, putting the team in the middle of the table, just three points away from the play-off positions to LaLiga Santander. Four victories and two draws in seven games, that is 14 out of a possible 21 points, to the delight of the fans and with the players more committed than ever.
His dialogue, based on humility, honesty and honour has penetrated the dressing room in the same way as his rock-star style of football. Sergio, you’re one of us and your luck will be ours. You are our coach!
