Off to a great start! (4-1)

Málaga enjoyed a big win against CD Ginelux Juan Grande on matchday 2 of Reto Iberdrola. Goals from María Ruiz (X2), Gaby and Claudia secured the points in the Blue and Whites’ first game of the competition.

Málaga CF Femenino got off to a flying start in Reto Iberdrola, defeating CD Juan Grande by 4-1. The Blue and Whites were unable to play the first match of the season in Group Sur ‘A’ against CF Femenino Cáceres as cases of COVID-19 was detected amongst the Malaguista squad.

Following a 10-day home quarantine period, Nati Gutiérrez’s girls carried out intense preparations for matchday 2 to start the competition on the right foot, albeit late. The coach said before the match that the players were raring to go following the quarantine, which they showed on Sunday.

Málaga were up against Ginelux Juan Grande from the Canary Islands, a serious rival who claimed a point from their visit to the Costa del Sol last season (0-0).

The match was held at Complejo Polideportivo Municipal de Cártama in the presence of fans – all suitably distanced in adherence with COVID-19 protocol – on a sunny Sunday morning. María Ruiz opened the scoring after 11 minutes to give the locals an early advantage (1-0). However, Nazaret went level from the penalty spot in minute 38 (1-1). The equaliser served as an incentive for Nati’s girls, who netted the 2-1 before half-time, in minute 42, the work of Gabi.

Barely 10 minutes into the second half and Claudia made it 3-1 (54’). Just before the final whistle, in 87’, María Ruiz scored her second goal of the game from the 11-metre mark to seal the result (4-1).

A resounding victory against a great rival and a stunning, yet late, start to the league competition for the Malaguistas.
