No points for an MCFF who deserved more (1-2)

The Blue and White women’s team lost at home in Cártama against CD Pozoalbense, on matchday 5 of Group Sur ‘A’ of the Reto Iberdrola.

The onus was on the attack for Nati Gutiérrez’s starting line-up, with changes on all lines. Andrea Romero returned to goal, with Ale, captain Ruth, Encarni and Clo in defence; reserve team players Andrea Ríos and Natalia Padilla, along with Gabi on the right, and playmakers Estefanía and María Ruiz were behind forward, Claudia.

Málaga took an early lead thanks to a goal from María Ruiz (1-0, 9’). The Malaguista pichichi has now netted three goals in four league games. The joy was short-lived however as Marín went level (1-1, 13’). Following a hectic start, the pace of play reduced and at half-time the scoreboard was all square.

No sooner had the second half got underway, the girls suffered a psychological blow. Pozoalbense were awarded a penalty that Karla converted with determination (1-2, 51’). From then on, Málaga showed heart in their attempts to go level. Nati brought on Judith and Fitu on the attack and moved Ruth upfront in the final minutes. Sufficient opportunities were generated, particularly from the set piece, to take the game to 2-2, but it wasn’t to be, despite the effort made.

The three points escaped today but the next opportunity for the girls is on Wednesday 25th November, the postponed matchday 1 clash between MCF Femenino and CF Cáceres in Extremadura.
