Narrow defeat for Málaga Femenino against UDG Tenerife (1-0)

The Blue and Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat against UD Granadilla Tenerife in the first friendly of the United International Football Festival.

There was no doubt, despite being a friendly, the match between Málaga CF Femenino and UD Granadilla Tenerife was going to be a big, First Division-style game, which both teams showed from the outset. Equality was the dominant tone of the match at the Estadio Municipal de Los Cuartos in La Orotava, with both teams’ defence taking centre stage. In 15’, UDG striker María José saw a gap in the Blue and Whites’ defence, yet the Málaga goal was perfectly protected by Chelsea who prevented the 1-0 with a superb save. The goalkeeper took the reins of play and saved another two chances for the Granadilla forwards. At half-time the scoreboard remained at 0-0.

In the second half the team stepped back on to the pitch with María Ruiz in play in substitution of Celia. The Malaguistas were bursting with energy and in minute 50 Adriana was close to the 0-1 opener but the ball escaped the net by mere millimetres.

Neither team backed down and the ball travelled from one end of the pitch to the other. UDG tried their luck but the Málaga defence was too strong. In the 60th minute Adriana had another opportunity to take the lead but came up against Aline’s gloves.

As the match entered its closing stages, UDG controlled possession. Thanks to a corner placed by Sara, leading to a poor header by Marta Cazalla, the Tenerife-based rival went ahead thanks to the own goal.

Málaga kept up the fight and Misa could have equalised thanks to a great pass from Adriana, however the player from Montenegro didn’t manage to convert. Despite their attempts, the match ended in a minimal defeat for the Malagueñas (1-0).

The Málaga players in action: Chelsea, Shiv (Encarni 53’), Marta, Leti, P. Mascaró (Natalita 53’), Adriana, Pamela, Raquel, Ruth, Dominika and Celia (María Ruiz 45’).
