Security in defence and effective goal-scoring. Since the arrival of Míchel in the dugout, a result has been repeated in three out of the four victories with the Madrid-born coach at the helm: a solvent 2-0.
With Míchel González as coach, the Blue and Whites have won four out of their last five LaLiga Santander matches, in two sequences of two consecutive victories, with all four wins having a common denominator: the Málaga goal remains unbeaten. These good results have been based on a great consistency on all areas of the pitch, and maximising goals scored, with Sandro as the goal man, and the 2-0 result marking the ‘Míchel stamp’.
The positive consequence is that in their last eight games, MCF has won 13 of a possible 24 points, placing them in the calm area of the table and affirming their continuity in the elite for the 10th consecutive season, following the 0-2 win in Granada. This match also led to other significant stats:
Breaking the Granada jinx. After six matches, Málaga CF claimed victory in Granada in the elite. Following a draw and four defeats, the team finally clinched their first win at Nuevo Los Cármenes.
Al Thani, 300 matches. The longest-serving president in all denominations of the Club accumulated a new record in Granada. The Sheikh reached his 300th official match at the helm of the Club.
Sandro matches Charles. With his ‘double’ against Granada CF, the Canaries-born striker equals the 12 goals scored last season by his teammate, Charles, the Malaguista ‘pichichi’ of the 2015/16 League season.
Kameni bolts the door. The Cameroonian-born goalkeeper, surrounded by a very solid defensive system, has not conceded a goal in five of the last seven games.
Keko and ‘Onti’, assistants. Following their respective assists to Sandro; Keko Gontán and Javi Ontiveros equalled Juankar and Chory in Granada in providing the most goal assists on the team, all with three.
