Míchel: “We’re only at the beginning; there is a lot to improve”

The Málaga CF coach analyses his team’s defeat against Girona FC: “There are situations we must continue to improve on and engage with”.

Match analysis

“We played a very hesitant first half hour, with many losses. Unnecessary losses that prevented us from putting together our attack, and which allowed Girona to grow further, perhaps without too much depth, but with a feeling that the ball was closer to our area than that of the rival. In the second half, gradually and with the substitutions, the team managed to gain ground. It’s true that we didn’t suffer too much, and in addition, the two or three chances we had lacked accuracy. It cost us to defend and attack, and it seems that with one goal we were left out of the game. We knew from the beginning that the season was going to be very long, and that we’d have to suffer a lot”.

Two sides

“There are many situations we must improve on and engage with, although we will win. We cannot understand and allow the first half of the match. We were aware of the gameplay Girona would come out with, and what possibilities we had to maintain. Much of Girona’s attacking actions were from our own unnecessary losses in midfield. We had subsequent alternatives, sought solutions and the team showed improvement. However, with both teams sharing opportunities, and with both being even, the result was adverse for us”.

Start of LaLiga

“We’re only at the beginning; there is a lot to improve. There were situations that occurred in the game that we tried to eradicate, but were unable to. Above all, we are a team that finds it difficult without the ball. We need to have many more solutions when we have possession to go much deeper, and that’s how the second half went”.

Changes and Mula

“When we were losing we needed another alternative. We wanted to leave Recio with Adrían in order to have more arrival, and we played with one pivot. It was good as we had more depth, particularly on the left wing. The positive note today was to see Mula taking part in a match that was complex for him, being his debut in the First Division, and the lad played very well”.
