Míchel: “I remain with what the fans are saying; nobody is giving up”

The Malaguista coach analyses the run-up to #MálagaCelta in the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda: “It’s essential that at some point we take a step forward, and now’s the time”.

Team motivation

“We are seeking technical and tactical solutions, as well as the line-up and motivational aspects. We have to move forward, it doesn’t always have to be a push forward due to circumstances, the fans or the coach, nor themselves. The players are under a great deal of pressure, and at times it’s good to have a change of focus”.

Take a step forward

“The players are from the First Division, and I’ve always defended them here publicly, as well as privately whilst watching the training sessions. It’s essential that at some point we take a step forward, and now’s the time. I think that following the training, which has been going well, the players are now much better, and we are ready for tomorrow’s match without a doubt”.

The rival – RC Celta de Vigo

“They’ve had a change of coach, but out of the 11 players we have in mind will play tomorrow, 10 are from last season, and many have been with the team for two or three seasons. They’ve brought one, who is an undisputed starting player, and we can say they’ve come a long way. In addition, Unzué, within his style, has managed to respect the identity of this team, which for three years has been working very well”.

Roberto

“He’s going to play, he’s recovered. We could have forced it so he played in Soria, but I don’t think it was necessary, amongst other things because Andrés was going to be goalkeeper for that game. He was excellent in every way during the Camp Nou match. Now we understand that Roberto has been very good up to now, and is a very important player to us, but it’s positive that for the cause we also won another goalkeeper”.

Refereeing actions

“Of the referees, or the situations that are occurring with the referees; on Tuesday we conceded another goal from an anti-regulation position. It’s good that we noticed it, but I think we, the team, must focus on the game. It’s about starting with the theory: the refs don’t give or take anything away from the position you are in at the end of the season. It’s true there are specific situations that are repeating and causing us harm, but that will change, I hope”.

Fans

“Manifestations, both individual and collective, in favour of the team, I’ve personally seen loads. In this I remain with something that our fans will demonstrate tomorrow, promoted by Frente Bokerón, that here nobody is giving up”.
