Álvaro Fernández, Under-17 World Cup runner-up

Spain lost out in the grand final of the tournament against England (5-2). The Malaguista goalkeeper played every minute of the competition, and claims a well-deserved second place with La ‘Rojita’.

Malaguista goalkeeper, Álvaro Fernández put on a great performance in the Under-17 World Cup in India. The goalkeeper manned the goal for Santio Denia’s team in the seven matches undertaken by Spain, providing a great example of his qualities between the sticks.

England won the grand final of the tournament, held in Calcutta, by 5-2, overcoming Spain’s initial 2-0 lead thanks to two goals from Sergio Gómez in 10’ and 13’. In spite of the end result, the Spanish team, of whom many of the players are European champions like Álvaro, had a magnificent tournament, sealed by earning second place.
