Ignacio Camacho started with Málaga just over a year ago, in the winter of the 2010/11 season. Coming from Atlético de Madrid, where he was shaped as a person and a footballer, the Under-21’s international spoke about his team to ‘MCF-TV’.
Ideal situation
“We’re now in a position where everyone would like to be, so we need to make sure we stay there and keep working hard. We’re playing a constant game both home and away, and are very pleased with our performance, but need to keep moving forward to qualify for Champions at the end of the season. We were struggling in away matches, but the team has now overcome this. We can’t make any mistakes at home, and need to play the best football we can until the end of season”.
Personal
“I’d love to have the chance to play more, so I’ll keep working as hard as I can to ensure I’m ready when I’m needed. I was lucky to play against Barça and Madrid, which were both difficult, but brilliant matches. We gained an important point in Madrid, which was a turning point in moving the team up the table. Following Toulalan’s unfortunate injury, the doors have opened a little more for me, and I hope to be able to play as much as possible”.
Aims / Fans
“Collectively, we need to stay where we are, maintain consistency, and qualify for Champions. From the fans’ point of view, being in Champions is something they’ve never experienced before, it’s so exciting for them. They’ve always been there for us, and are part of the team”.
Málaga
“The ability for players to adapt to being here is amazing. No player who comes to Málaga, can fail to love this place and really fit in. The weather, the city, the people…it’s very easy to be happy here off the pitch as well. I’ll always remember this city”.
Zaragoza / Atlético
“All my family is still in the place where I was born. I’ve got a lot of friends in Madrid, and Atlético de Madrid gave me everything: the chance to move up to the First Division, for which I’ll always be grateful”.
