MCF: Awakening the goal (II)

Twelve of the 23 Blue and Whites’ players – including Kameni – who have participated in LaLiga Santander 16/17 have scored a goal. This represents over half of Málaga CF’s players who have scored so far this season.

Málaga CF ranks second in relation to teams with the highest number of different goal-scorers out of the 11 League games so far.   Sandro (5), Camacho (2), Llorente, Rosales, Juanpi, Chory, Duda, Jony, Pablo, Santos, Charles and En-Nesyri are the 12 players who have scored up to now.  The leaders of the table, Real Madrid, rank first in this statistic, with 14 different scorers.

Sandro, with five goals, is the Malaguista ‘pichichi’, and is immersed in a scoring streak.  He scored three goals in the last three League matches, and scored in each one of the last four games held at La Rosaleda.  In addition, after Iago Aspas (6), he’s tied with Aduriz as the best Spanish striker of the competition.

Furthermore, #MálagaSporting led to two interesting goal-scoring stats:

1300 goals

  • The goal scored by Sandro (the 2-2 equaliser) against Sporting, was MCF’s 1300th goal in official competition since 1994, when the current name was adopted.  Since 4th September 1994 against AD Adra (1-1), they have played 971 official matches.
  • To date, the 1301 goals scored – the last from Michael Santos – by Málaga CF in official competition is broken down as follows: First Division (723); Second Division (179); Second Division B (147); Third Division (99); Copa del Rey (89); Champions League (18); UEFA Cup (9); Intertoto Cup (9); Promotion to Second Division (12); and Promotion to Second Division B (16).

1500 goals

  • The goal by Pablo Fornals (the 1-1 equaliser) against the Asturian rival was goal number 1500 at La Rosaleda in a First Division match.
  • These 1500 goals were scored by CD Málaga in 323 home games; Málaga CF in 291 games and Real Betis in one (Betis 2-5 Sporting, held at La Rosaleda on 21/04/96, was the only official First Division match to take place at the stadium, in which neither CD Málaga nor Málaga CF were competing).  The number of goals stands at 1503 for the moment.
