Matos, new left-back joins the team

José Matos joins Málaga CF’s first team on loan from Cádiz CF for the 2020/21 season.

The new Blue and White player signed his contract at La Rosaleda’s offices, successfully passed the medical and will join team training immediately.

Homegrown Sevillista

José Joaquín Matos García (Utrera, Sevilla, 1995) is a left-back who honed his skills within the Sevilla FC youth ranks. He made his reserve team debut at just 17 years of age in Group IV of Segunda B, where he remained for four consecutive seasons (2012-16), achieving promotion to the Second Division in 15/16. That same campaign he debuted with Sevilla FC in the elite away to RCD Espanyol (1st May 2016).

In Liga SmartBank, Matos has accumulated 64 matches (63 in the starting line-up) in the 16/17 and 17/18 campaigns.

Cádiz and Holland

The defender left Sevilla and signed to his current Club, Cádiz CF, playing 21 matches (all in the starting-11) in the formerly known Liga 1|2|3 in the 18/19 season. Then in the previous 2019/20 season, Matos was loaned out by Cádiz to FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Despite his young age, Matos has accumulated 85 matches in LaLiga SmartBank and reinforces a very specific position in the left profile of the defence.

Welcome, and lots of luck, José Joaquín!
