Match preview: #PonferradinaMálaga

Away from home this weekend for Málaga CF against SD Ponferradina on LaLiga SmartBank matchday 14. The final match of the first third of the competition for VSDA’s men.

The Blue and Whites, with 14 points and in 16th place in the table, face the rival in eighth place with 18 points. The match is taking place at El Toralín this Friday at 18:30 (Movistar LaLiga).

The match will be officiated by Santiago Varón Aceitón from the Balearic Islands, who has only refereed Málaga CF in one official match (a 3-0 home win against Córdoba CF last season). José Antonio López Toca from Cantabria will be in charge of the VAR.

  • At home, in LaLiga SmartBank 19/20, SD Ponferradina have obtained a total of three victories, three draws and one defeat, scoring 11 goals and conceding six. Meanwhile, Málaga CF are seeking their third consecutive victory, and the third of the season away from La Rosaleda.
  • Sadiku and Adrián are the Malaguista league 'pichichis' with three goals. Yuri, with six goals, is SD Ponferradina’s highest scorer. The Portuguese-Brazilian forward (cousin of ex Malaguista Charles), has scored 200 goals in official games, in the Second Division, Promotion to Second Division, Copa del Rey and Second B.
  • Keidi Bare and Juankar are the Malaguistas on the verge of suspension with four yellow cards.

  • The second time SD Ponferradina and Málaga CF will play one another in the Second Division. In addition, this is MCF’s second visit to El Toralín stadium in an official match.
  • In the first match, on matchday 33 of the 2006/07 season, Málaga CF obtained a draw (2-2). Antonio Hidalgo and Bornes – own goal – scored the Malaguista goals.
  • Curiously, one of Ponferradina’s goals was scored by Nabil Baha, who became a Malaguista player the following season.
  • In the past four seasons in the silver division, on matchday 14, MCF obtained three victories (0-3 against Hércules de Alicante CF, 1-0 against UD Salamanca and 2-0 against Gimnàstic de Tarragona) and one defeat (2-0 against Real Sociedad).
