The first CA Osasuna-Málaga CF

Although these two rivals came face to face in the Second Division (1998/99 season), the first duel at El Sadar in the elite took place on 18th March 2001. A great match that started off well for MCF who took a 0-2 lead, with goals from Rufete and Dely Valdés. However, Osasuna made a comeback, 3-2, but Ariel Zárate equalised to make it 3-3 in the end. Peiró’s team that day consisted of: Contreras; Rojas, Fernando Sanz, Larrainzar (Martín Rivas ’57), Roteta; Rufete, Movilla (Zárate ’77), De los Santos, Sandro (Iznata ’77); Darío Silva and Dely Valdés.

The best away win in history

On 27th February 2005 (2004/05 season), Málaga CF achieved their biggest away win to date in the First Division, at El Sadar. That day, Málaga defeated Osasuna by 1-6, with goals from Baiano (2), Miguel Ángel, Duda, Juan Rodríguez and Wanchope. Antonio Tapa’s historic team line-up included: Arnau; Gerardo, Fernando Sanz, César Navas, Valcarce; Juanito, Romero (Amoroso ’86); Juan Rodríguez, Miguel Ángel, Duda (Iznata’83); Baiano (Wanchope ’61).
