Joaquín Peiró selected the following Blue and Whites’ line-up: Contreras; Rojas, Bravo, Fernando Sanz, Valcarce; Rufete (Darío Silva ’60), De Los Santos, Movilla (Sandro ’65), Agostinho; Edgar (Basti ’84) and Alberto Luque. In this match, Basti debuted in the elite wearing the Málaga CF shirt.

Historical curiosities

  • In Málaga-Atlético (2-2) during the 2014/15 season, Fernando Torres scored the only own goal of his professional career.
  • Manu Torres, who made his way up through all Málaga CF’s youth ranks, debuted with the first team, and scored a goal, in the 3-0 victory against Atlético de Madrid (30/08/2009).
  • The first footballer to play both for Málaga (Real Málaga FC), as well as Atlético de Madrid was Sevilla-born goalkeeper, Manuel Hucha, who in the 1928/29 season, moved from competing in the regional category to the First Division.
  • Within the list of players in common, there are some who formed part of Atlético de Madrid, but who didn’t debut for various reasons. Standout examples are the eternal Juan Gómez “Juanito”, and more recently, Martín Demichelis.
