Match preview Levante-Málaga

Málaga CF is visiting the Ciutat de Valencia to face Levante UD on Wednesday 30th December at 4 p.m., for the 17th LaLiga match of the season. The game will be refereed by Gil Manzano from Extremadura.

The ‘Malaguistas’, in 13th place with 17 points, are facing the bottom-placed side with 11 points.  MCF has visited the Valencia-based stadium a total of six times in the First Division.

Results between these rivals in the elite have gone in Levante’s favour, having secured four victories (the most recent being by 4-1 last season).  Málaga have won on two occasions.  The first away win against Levante was in the 34th match of the 2004/05 season by 0-1, thanks to a goal from Brazilian-born striker, Fernando Baiano; and the most recent being by 1-2 in the 23rd game of the 2012/13 season, with a local goal from Barkero and two from Blue and Whites’ player, Isco.

Historical data / Curiousities:

  • Filipenko debuted with Málaga CF in an official match against Levante UD in the Copa del Rey last season (13/01/2015).
  • On 09/05/1982 in a Second Division game, CD Málaga was losing by 2-1 to Levante UD in the 90th minute.  Goals from Antonio Hierro and Serrano in injury time saw Málaga win by 2-3, keeping their promotion battle intact.
  • CD Málaga’s fifth promotion to the First Division came following a Levante-Málaga match (0-0), which took place on 13/06/1965 at the old Vallejo ground, in the return leg of the promotion tie (the first leg ended 4-2).
