Match preview Eibar-Málaga

Málaga are away to Eibar at Ipurúa for the 22nd LaLiga game. Mateu Lahoz will be refereeing this special match for an ex player of both teams, Axier Idoia. “I appreciate the two sides,” he says on the Club’s website.

The ‘Malaguistas’, in 12th place with 24 points, are visiting the 6th placed side with 33 points.  In the Basque Country in the First Division, as MCF, the only match between these rivals was in 2014/15, when Eibar defeated Málaga by 1-0, thanks to a goal from Arruabarrena.

To take into account:

  • If Málaga CF defeats SD Eibar they will exceed the 186 victories of CD Málaga in the Spanish footballing elite.
  • If he plays, Ignacio Camacho will reach 150 official matches with MCF.
  • Mendilibar has selected 19 different starting line-ups in the 2015/16 LaLiga season, whilst Gracia has opted for 21 different line-ups.
  • Local duo: Borja Bastón (14) and Sergi Enrich (6) have scored 20 of Eibar’s 34 League goals.
  • Mateu Lahoz has refereed MCF in the elite, away, a total of 8 times.  The results were 3 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats for the Blue and Whites.

  • SD Eibar and CD Málaga have faced each other 4 times in the Second Division (home and away), and CD Málaga didn’t score any goals.

Interview | Axier Idoia

(Memories) “I was with Eibar for one season and it was great.  I had an extraordinary year with Málaga, it was wonderful and we achieved promotion to the Second Division.  I am in contact with others from that time, Míkel Roteta, Jon Bakero and Ramírez”.

(Personal) “After I retired I coached in the Canary Islands, and now I’m coaching Portugalete in the Second B Division.  I have a very special memory of Málaga, everyone treated me amazingly well and I felt very at home there.”

(Appreciative) “Tomorrow’s match is going to be a good one.  Eibar are undergoing an historic campaign and Málaga are moving up and doing well.  I appreciate the two sides and a draw would be good for both.”
