Match preview: Alavés-Málaga

Málaga CF is visiting Mendizorroza on Sunday to face Deportivo Alavés, in the 8th LaLiga Santander match of 2016/17. Officiated by Hernández Hernández, the game will kick off at 12:00 (Bein Sports).

This will be Málaga CF’s sixth visit to Alavés’ ground in the First Division.  The Malaguistas have accumulated two victories and three defeats, with six goals scored and seven conceded.  Taking into account the Second Division as well, the balance is favourable for MCF, with four victories and three defeats, eight goals scored and seven conceded.

The match will be refereed by Hernández Hernández, who has officiated the La Rosaleda team five times in the First Division, two of which were away games, both defeats against Celta de Vigo and Valencia.

Stats and historical data:

  • One of the first coaches in Málaga football, Walter Harris (Míster Harris) was in charge of both Real Málaga FC and Deportivo Alavés.
  • José Baonza, debut coach of Deportivo Alavés in the First Division in 1930/31, was also coach of FC Malagueño.
  • José María Zárraga, CD Málaga coach, and later technical secretary in the 60s, was years later also secretary for the Vitoria-based team.
