Malagueño falls to Martos (1-2)

This morning, Sunday 4th December, Atlético Malagueño and Martos played the 18th match of Group Nine in the Third Division at the Málaga Federation of Football ground.

The clash between the Malaguistas and the Jaen side was characterised by the low number of goal chances throughout the match, and practically no activity from the goalkeepers of either team.  The main reason for this was the defensive screen that Martos established meaning that Jaime Molina’s side had little chance to penetrate the rival’s goal area.

In the first few minutes of the match, Víctor Ruiz on the left wing was Málaga’s only real hope for attack and this manifested itself with a shot from Diego as the only opportunity to score.  Being well planted at the back and with all 11 players defending the field, Martos took advantage of an isolated move that began with a set piece, to put themselves ahead thanks to a shot by Nico taken on the edge of the goal area.

With 0-1 on the scoreboard, Atlético Malagueño upped their attack to tried and to get an equaliser, but their efforts were in vain and with a one goal advantage to the visiting side, the half time whistle blew.

The second half began on an equal footing, with a Malagueño on the attack, pushing towards the Martos goal, which allowed the visiting side to create some dangerous moves.  The game was looking increasingly shut down for an indecisive Malagueño, meaning that Martos were able to once again batter Pol’s goal, and establish a score of 0-2.

With this new advantage, the Jaen team were more confident out on the pitch, whilst Malagueño looked almost desperate to close the gap, something Jaime Molina’s men pulled together in the final five minutes with a shot by Juanillo that began as a diversion from a player form the rival side. It was 1-2 at the end of the match, meaning Marcos took away the three points.

This result means that Atlético Malagueño remains in fifth position in Group Nine of the Third Division with 30 points, at one, two and three points from the fourth, third and second respectively and with one less game, a match against Maracena – fourth in the group – which was suspended due to rain.
