Malaga turn the game around and beat Getafe (1-3)

Málaga Club de Fútbol and Getafe Club de Fútbol played the 26th BBVA League match at Getafe’s Coliseum Alfonso Pérez stadium.

The Getafe meeting started with lots of intensity as Málaga made direct approaches to Moyá’s goal area, and there was an immediate response from Miku with a shot that Willy Caballero brilliantly saved.  Minutes later, Getafe’s Venezuelan striker tried again, making him the most active member of the local team’s squad, alongside Barrada.

Quarter of an hour in and the pace began to drop with many moves in the midfield as the ball didn’t approach either area, although Juan Rodríguez and Güiza tried various shots.  From there, and with equal possession, the game continued with few chances for either team.

The Malaguistas’ best chance came at the half an hour mark, with a header from Rondón, following acorner taken by Cazorla and which was rejected by the Getafe goalkeeper, Moyá.  As in other moments, this followed with another opportunity for the rival team: this time it was Güiza who tried to batter Caballero’s goal  The final few minutes of the first half were more intense as both teams upped their game.  But it was Getafe, with a goal by Diego Castro after a pass from Valera, who scored the first goal, giving the Madrid-based side a minimal advantage (1-0) as the half time whistle blew.

The second half began with a two changes in the Malaguista line-up: Joaquín and Eliseu came on for the Recio and Isco, looking for greater activity on the wings, something which was evident with a header by Seba Fernández, after a pass by Gámez, but which narrowly missed going in as it hit the crossbar.  Just after, a corner taken by Cazorla landed at the feet of Eliseu who rocketed the ball to the left hand corner of the Getafe goal, making it one-all in minute 57.

Demichelis came on for Seba Fernández, putting the Argentinean in the centre of the Malaguista pitch and with this change Málaga seemed strengthened, and some good played ensued on the wings by Joaquín and Eliseu.  Getafe didn’t collapse but continued at a slower pace with a few approaches to Caballero’s area although none of the attempts were converted in the last few metres.

Success once again fell on Málaga with another powerful shot by Toulalan, who managed from that point to turn the game around, with a spectacular goal that first bounced off the right goalpost.  It was minute 83 and Málaga had the 1-2 advantage. It was in extra time that Santi Cazorla, from 40 metres and from the right wing, took a shot that sentenced the game.  Indeed, he did what he does best by securing another incredible goal.

Victory for Málaga Club de Fútbol with one goal to three, giving the Blue and Whites 37 points and fourth position in the BBVA League.
