Málaga CF receives Gold Medal of the Province

The Diputación de Málaga distinguishes the Club for its successes, for being a platform for the diffusion of sporting values, for promoting sport among young people and for conveying the image of the province and the Costa del Sol.

Málaga Club de Fútbol received the Gold Medal of the Province yesterday at ‘La Malagueta’ bullring, to celebrate ‘Día de Málaga’ held on 26th April. The Malaguista expedition was made up of José María Muñoz, Málaga CF’s judicial administrator; Carlos Arias, Director of Business and General Services; Ana Vera, Director of the Institutional Relations Department; Manolo Gaspar, Sporting Director; Lucas Rodríguez, MCF Foundation Coordinator; Sergio Paulo Barbosa ‘Duda’, Director of the MCF Academy; Alberto Escassi, Málaga CF captain; Claudia García ‘Clo’, Málaga CF Femenino captain; and Cristóbal Calle, Málaga CF Genuine player.

Fundación La Caixa and Starlite received the same distinction as the Blue and White entity at the gala, and healthcare workers received an Honorary Distinction for their impeccable work in the fight against the coronavirus.

In adherence with safety protocol for the prevention of COVID-19, the event got underway with the hymns of Andalucía and Spain performed by a brass quintet from the Malaga Symphony Orchestra. Subsequently, following the tribute to the healthcare workers, it was the turn of Francisco de la Torre, Mayor of Málaga; Teófilo Ruiz, deputy delegate of the Spanish government in Málaga; and Patricia Navarro, government delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga.

José María Muñoz and Alberto Escassi were in charge of accepting the Gold Medal, after which the judicial administrator took to the floor. “Three fundamental things. This award is for the Malaguista fans who have suffered for so long and for the employees at the Club, everyone from the cleaners, ticketing staff…who have suffered so much. We are far better off now than we were a year ago, when for a long time we were closer to disappearing than to continuing. Secondly, to the president of the Diputación, especially, and to the Diputación Provincial for becoming our main sponsor. This means that the shirt has automatically been revalued and, as such, we’ll receive more money from it, which was partly the goal that we both set ourselves. Finally, Don Francisco Martín Aguilar should be here today receiving this award, as perhaps the very first Malaguista. He is convalescing, we send him a message of support, and hope to have him back with us very soon. We are all Malaga”, he told everyone present.

Francisco Salado, president of the Diputación de Málaga then said a few words: “Málaga Club de Fútbol has managed to leave behind the obvious risk of disappearance. The goal was accomplished with a great deal of sacrifice, sensible management, and the Club is now looking to the future. I am convinced that sooner rather than later, as a Malaguista, the team will be back in the First Division. And the Diputación is here to support the team as main sponsor. Congratulations!”, he said before the showing of the Costa del Sol promotional video ‘Al Son de la buena vida’ to end the celebrations. Following the group photo, the event came to a close with dinner and a musical performance from Dry Martina. All whilst respecting the safety measures and with perfect timing.

It is such an honour for Málaga Club de Fútbol to receive this significant award, in recognition of the work that the Entity is undertaking during these difficult times.
